EXPECTATIONS

Expectations lead to disappointments.

When we deal with a service provider our expectations are very high. We expect excellent service, value addition and at a low cost. When we travel by Air we expect Business Class or First Class service at Economy Rates. When we deal with business partners we expect consistent growth, higher profits and total transparency. Whilst there is nothing wrong in having high expectations from others, one should also remember the same is true from the other end. People who deal with us will also have the same level of expectations from us and we have to live with their expectations in order have long term relationships.

It is always better to lower our expectation in life so that we do not face disappointments or heart burns. It is equally important to present ourselves at slightly lower levels so that we can temper the expectations of others from us.

It is important for us to set the expectations right in every transaction and every relationship. Setting high expectations will lead to disappointments and can spoil the relationship. Setting expectations right at the beginning will help to have smooth relationship. I have seen at work people end up setting high expectations in the mind of the superior and end up falling short of the expectations. It is better to set the expectation right and specify the amount of work that can be done within the timeline/deadline. Once the level of expectation is set and agreed it is imperative to perform and deliver the results.

We live in a highly competitive world with lot of uncertainties and hence it is extremely critical to set expectations right on everything that we do in our lives.

  1. Dream big, learn to handle disappointments.

It u are scared and worried of consequences of your actions, one would professise caution. It's good to be cautious but risk is directly and exponentially proportionate to satisfaction in any which way it arrives.
